The dental implant process will involve several trips to our Montclair, CA dentist office and a typical case will be completed in six to eight months. In most cases, every step of the implant process will take place at Montclair Plaza Dental Group. Our dentists and staff will work with you through the entire process to guarantee consistent and quality results.

Planning – The planning that goes into dental implants is the most important part of the process. Using advanced technology, one of our expert dentists will conduct a full mouth examination as well as review your medical history to make sure you qualify for implants. The number of implants and where they need to be placed will be carefully mapped out. A clear and concise plan will guarantee the best possible results.

Preparation – Preparing for the surgical implantation may involve nothing or several things. Do you suffer from gum disease? Then you will need to undergo treatment for that. Do you need teeth extracted? Those will need to be removed first and, for the best results, allowed time to heal properly. Do you have enough bone to support the implants? If you do not, then you may need to undergo a sinus lift or bone graft. Do you smoke or use tobacco? To give your implants the best possible chance for success, you will need to quit using tobacco altogether. All of these things will need to be addressed to guarantee the success of the implants.

Surgical Implantation – The placement of the dental implants will involve a surgical procedure. Here, the small titanium posts will be placed in the jaw bone in the predetermined location. A single implant will only take about an hour to place. Multiple dental implants can take up to three hours to place. In most cases, this step can be performed here in our Montclair, CA dentist office. The implants sit just below the gum line where they will fuse with the surrounding bone over a period of about three to six months.

Abutment Placement – After the implant has fully fused with the surrounding jaw bone, you will return for a minor procedure. Here the gums will be opened up and a small piece called an abutment will be attached to the implant. This will serve as the foundation for the permanent dental restoration. After the abutment is placed, the gum tissue will need a few weeks to heal.

Placing the Restoration – Once your gums are fully healed, your Montclair, CA dentist will place your permanent dental restoration. If you are missing one tooth, a single dental implant will be used to secure a dental crown. If you are missing several consecutive teeth, at least two dental implants will be used to secure a dental bridge. For multiple, non-consecutive missing teeth, anywhere from two to eight dental implants will be used to secure a denture on an arch.

How long will it take to complete my implant treatment?

This is completely dependent on your unique circumstances. A single missing tooth can be replaced in a healthy mouth in six months or less. However, if you require any of the above listed preparations, the entire process will take longer to accommodate additional treatments and healing times. In severe cases, the implant process can take up to a year. It is important to remember that this is not a simple process. It involves time and patience for the best possible outcome. In most cases, we will be able to place temporary teeth for function and aesthetic purposes.

Since no two patients are the same, the cost of the dental implant treatment will also be unique for each patient. However, it is important to be informed of what will go into the cost of your teeth replacement treatment.

Dr. Nikki Ancona is an implant dentist in Montclair, CA that wants her patients to be informed about the investment required to get an implant secured dental restoration. It is, of course, a big part of the decision making process when choosing how to replace your missing teeth. The dental staff at Montclair Plaza Dental Group will work with each patient to help them understand and navigate through the insurance and payment process.

The Cost of Dental Implants

Dental implants are undoubtedly the number one solution for tooth loss, but they are also the most expensive. One of our dentists will perform a thorough examination of your mouth and review your medical history to determine if you qualify for them. If you do, they will devise a treatment plan to replace your missing teeth with an implant supported dental restoration. Many questions will need to be answered to create the treatment plan and give you an estimated cost:

Where are the missing teeth located along the arch?
What size implant(s) will be required
How many implants are needed to secure a restoration?
Do you have sufficient bone density to secure the implants?
Do you need teeth extracted?
Do you need other treatments such as gum disease therapy?
Will your insurance cover any portion of the treatment?

Once our team has these questions answered, we can give you an estimated cost of your implant treatment.

Why are dental implants so expensive?

The process of having a dental implant restoration placed is very intricate and invasive. It involves many visits to our Montclair, CA dentist office for treatments and checkups. A surgical procedure is required where the dental implants are surgically placed in the jaw bone. The whole process will take months to complete and will also requires quality materials. All of this will add up. It is important to remember that this investment is better for your overall quality of life, overall health and oral health.

Will dental insurance cover dental implants?

Understanding dental insurance is often confusing for many patients. We often get asked this question but whether or not dental insurance covers your implants solely depends on the type of coverage you have. We suggest that you reach out to your provider to see if any portion of your implant treatment is partially covered

Payment Options

Montclair Plaza Dental Group accepts many forms of payments including cash, major credit cards, and checks. We also offer the convenience of financing dental implants with CareCredit for patients that qualify. They offer low or no interest monthly payments that will help cover the cost of treatment.

Are dental implants worth it?

When compared to no treatment or traditional tooth replacement treatments, dental implants offer many more benefits. Montclair Plaza Dental Group, a dental office located in Montclair, CA, recommends teeth implants over other options because of the numerous advantages they offer. Our team offers all types of implant supported restorations and is excited to share the many benefits they offer.

Dental implants are very reliable

Dental implants are designed to be very stable and last a lifetime making them the most reliable solution for tooth loss. The implants are surgically placed in the jaw bone and will fuse with the surrounding bone. They will remain there forever creating a very durable and reliable base for your dental restoration. They have a 98% success rate and are the number one recommended solution.

You will forever be happy and confident with your smile knowing you won’t have to worry about the instability of removable tooth replacement options. As long as your care for them properly, they should last a lifetime. Brush, floss and visit our Montclair, CA dentist office at least twice a year for a check-up and cleaning just like you normally would.

Dental implants can improve your oral health

Replacing a missing tooth or teeth with dental implants will help keep your oral health in check. When teeth go missing your gums begin to recede, the jaw bone begins to deteriorate, and the surrounding teeth will begin to shift. You are also at a greater risk of gum disease and additional tooth loss.

If you choose dentures or a dental bridge to replace your teeth, it will prevent the other teeth from shifting, but you will slowly experience bone loss over the years. This can change the shape of your face and your restoration will need to adjusted or replaced. The prevention of bone loss is one of the best benefits to choosing dental implants to replace your teeth. The implant post that is surgically implanted into the jaw bone will actually act a tooth root providing stimulation for the bone and that will prevent bone loss. Implants will also prevent gum disease and additional tooth loss.

If you choose a dental bridge then the adjacent, healthy teeth will need to be grinded down in order to accommodate it. The healthy teeth that sit on either side of the bridge are essentially being damaged to replace one or a few teeth. Implants will only replace the teeth that are missing and will leave your healthy teeth intact.

Similar to natural teeth

Having missing teeth can create a damaging effect on your self-esteem. While replacing them with removable options may hold the shape of your face, dentures and partials are known to be bulky, uncomfortable and very noticeable. Since they are not very stable, they can also slip around in your mouth, cause slurred speech, and sometimes even fall out leading to an embarrassing situation.

Dental implants are the next best thing compared to natural teeth. The implant anchored restoration will be fabricated to blend in seamlessly with your other teeth. Each restoration is custom made to match the color of your other teeth and shaped to look like natural teeth. Not only do dental implants appear natural, they also feel and function like your natural teeth. Since the implants posts are surgically placed in your jawbone, they are very stable and leave you with no worries of them slipping around or falling out. This also will allow you to eat a variety of foods with little to no restrictions. Not many people will even know you have fake teeth!

Single Dental Implant

Why Replace a Single Missing Tooth

Even just one missing tooth can lead to oral health issues and will compromise the appearance of your smile. These oral health issues include prolonged bad breath, the development of tooth decay and gum disease, and teeth shifting towards the gap. Teeth that shift are a major complication that can lead to painful TMJ issues. The sooner you seek treatment for your missing tooth, the less chance you have of developing complications.

Dental implants are the most natural solution to tooth loss. It is the only replacement option that replaces the tooth at the root to prevent bone loss. Montclair Plaza Dental Group located in Montclair, CA offers full, in-house dental implant services. Our dental team possesses the experience, talent and technology needed to restore dental health when a single tooth is lost.

Single Dental Implant Process

To ensure your implant process is successful, we use state of the are digital technology in the treatment planning and surgical aspects of your process. Prior to your treatment, we will evaluate the over condition of your teeth, gums, bone structure, and surrounding area to find the most suitable placement for your implants.

Different Parts of a Dental Implant

Fixture

A dental implant is a metal, screw-like post that is surgically placed in the jaw where the missing tooth was located. This fixture will act as the missing tooth’s root which will prevent bone loss in the jaw. Implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes to properly support the size of tooth being replaced.

Abutment

The abutment is the next part to be connected. It will be attached to the implant fixture during a minor procedure that only requires a local anesthetic. The purpose of this piece is to support the dental crown.

Crown

The prosthesis used to replace one tooth is a dental crown. This is the part of the implant that will mimic a natural tooth. Dental crowns can be personalized to fit perfectly in the mouth and blend in naturally with the surrounding teeth. At the last visit to our Montclair, CA dental practice, one of our talented dentists will attach the tooth crown to the upper part of the abutment.

Multiple Dental Implants

Montclair Plaza Dental Group offers many solutions for patients suffering from multiple missing or failing teeth. Having to choose which solution is right for you can be a tough decision. Dental implants are considered the best option because of the multitude of benefits they possess. Our team is a Montclair, CA based dental practice that offers several options for patients who need to replace multiple teeth. At your consultation, he or another dentist at Montclair Plaza Dental Group will discuss each of the following options:

Removable partial denture
This tooth replacement solution will cost the least but also offers the least benefits. The fake teeth are fused to a denture base and uses metal clasps that will fit around your remaining teeth to hold it in place. This will put pressure on those healthy, remaining teeth. Also, the metal clasps are often visible when you speak or smile. A removable partial denture is not very stable and you will have to avoid chewing many types of food.
Fixed dental bridge
This dental restoration uses two adjacent teeth to anchor a dental bridge. The bridge is made up of two dental crowns that are located on each end with the pontics (the pieces that replace the missing teeth) in the middle. To secure the bridge, the adjacent teeth will need to be reduced and will endure more pressure when chewing and biting.
Dental implant supported bridge
This solution is by far the best option available to replace multiple missing teeth. While it will cost more and will take longer to complete, an implant support bridge is the only available solution that will look, feel and function like natural teeth. It is similar to a fixed dental bridge but instead of attaching the bridge to prepared adjacent teeth, it will be attached to dental implants that have been surgically placed in the jaw. Using two or more implants, we can replace three or more teeth.

Why choose multiple dental implants?

Out of all the dental issues that arise from missing teeth, implants can solves each one. Chewing can be a challenge when many teeth are missing. An implant supported restoration will make chewing your food easier since it will be very durable and stable. The implants will act as replacement teeth roots which will prevent bone loss and keep your face from sinking in. They will also prevent your adjacent teeth from shifting and will improve your health and self-esteem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to replace my missing tooth?

It is important to replace any of your missing teeth. Not only will you be embarrassed to smile, but it can also lead to more issues. A missing tooth will cause your teeth shift towards the gap. This can cause issues with your bite and painful TMJ disorders. People with missing teeth also have a greater chance of suffering from gum disease, tooth decay and additional tooth loss. Our team, Montclair, CA dentists, will recommend using dental implants to replace your missing teeth.

What is a dental implant?

An implant is a biocompatible titanium post that is placed into the jawbone. Secured to the implant will be the dental restoration. For patients missing just one tooth, a single implant will be placed and a dental crown will be secured to it. For multiple missing teeth, anywhere from two to eight implants may be placed and a dental bridge, partial denture or denture will be secured to them. The type of restoration and number of implants you will need depends on the location and number of missing teeth.

How long does the process take?

The process to have your implant secured restoration placed can take up to nine month and sometimes longer if you need significant dental worked completed before having the implants surgically placed. After the implant(s) are placed, they will need time to fuse with the surrounding bone and heal. This can take up to three to six months. Next, the abutment will be attached to the implant and impressions will be taken and used to fabricate your dental restoration. About two to three weeks later, the final restoration will be placed.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Most people qualify for dental implants and there is not a maximum age limit. Essentially, you need to be healthy enough for surgery and have sufficient bone structure to support the implant. For people who suffer from bone loss, our team may recommend bone grafting to ensure the success of your dental implants.

How will dental implants benefit my oral health?

When compared to other dental restorations, dental implants are the best option for your oral health. Implants are the only option available that replace the tooth at the root. This will prevent bone loss and all the negative effects of that. They are also more durable allowing the patient to eat a more healthy diet with little restrictions. Implants also do not require healthy teeth to be reduced like a tooth-supported dental bridge does.

How long do dental implants last?

If you choose to get dental implants, you must be committed to a good oral hygiene habits for the rest of your life to ensure their longevity. This includes brushing and flossing regularly and visiting our Montclair, CA dentist office every six months. With proper care, your implants can last a lifetime.

How much do dental implants cost?

The industry average cost for an implant secured dental crown is around $4,000. This is the total cost of the entire process including the surgical placement of the implant, the abutment, the crown, and all the appointments involved. This is for a single missing tooth and the cost will go up for multiple missing teeth.
